"Story time! Story time!" Your little son, Alfred exclaimed excitedly.
Every night you read a bed time story to your two sons, Alfred and Matthew; who was starting to look sleepy but still agreed with Alfred to hear a story.
Your husband Arthur had been out at work longer for the past few days, coming back home late at night. You didn't want your sons to be sad or worry so you kept them busy with story tales for the time-being.
"Alright, how about Goldilocks and the Three Bears?" you clasped your hands together.
Alfred nodded his head up and down while Matthew smiled happily as he clutched onto his white polar bear plushie.
Using your storytelling voice, you began. "Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Goldilocks, because her hair shone like gold. She went for a walk in the forest. Pretty soon, she came upon a house. She knocked and, when no one answered, she walked right in

.. And she never returned to the home of the three bears ever again. The End." You finished and turned to see Alfred and Matthew sound asleep.
You tucked in the two little blondes who were now sleeping and spun around to look at the clock, seeing that Arthur still hadn't returned back from work. You frowned at this and quietly walked over to your room after shutting the lights off in your children's bedroom.
'Arthur, we are definitely going to have a talk tomorrow morning before you step foot out of this house to go off to work.' You sighed to yourself as you crawled into bed and stared at the empty spot next to you where Arthur normally would be. Closing your eyes, you then drifted to sleep.
'I hope _______ isn't too mad at me. Work has been very crazy lately and ugh..' I shook my head, knowing this was no excuse for not being able to spend as much time with my wife and my sons. I felt guilty for neglecting my family for these past couple days and decided tonight would be my very last time working during the nighttime. Opening the door with the key, I went inside the house and quickly settled down by the kitchen to grab a quick snack since I haven't really eaten anything at work. Before I could enter though, I was stopped by our wooden table.
'What's this?' There were three bowls already set on the table (only one was filled with porridge) with a spoon by each side and a sticky note in the middle. It read:
'Welcome back home, Goldilocks.
Our two little bears have been tucked in bed hours ago. Please do us a grand favor and join us for story time, it's not the same without Papa Bear around.
I smiled and walked over to our bedroom, quietly opening the door and seeing _____ sleep so soundly.
I crept onto my side of the bed and softly wrapped my arms around her, cuddling her as she dreamt.
"I promise no more late shifts, love." I whispered and slowly drifted to sleep.
~ Extended ending:
"_______, do I have to?"
"Yes, Arthur. You happily agreed to join us for bedtime stories and we already have three little pigs; now all we need is a big bad wolf."
Your husband sighed, "Alright love, I suppose I'll help."
He walked over to Alfred and Matthew who were sitting on the bed and started reciting, "Little pig, little pig, let me come in."
"Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin", Alfred proudly replied.
"Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down." Arthur pretended to be a wolf and slowly crawled onto the bed, playfully huffing and puffing air all around him.
Alfred giggled and Arthur proceeded to do the same to Matthew, who stifled a quiet laugh while holding onto his polar bear friend to defend him from the Big Bad Wolf.
Arthur then turned to you and chanted, "Let me in, Let me in, little pig or I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in!"
You laughed as you answered, "Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin."
Arthur crept over to you in a wolf-like manner and started to drape his arms around you from behind as he whispered, "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down." You felt him send a hot breath of air directly onto your neck and turned to see a huge smirk on his face.
You playfully elbowed him and whispered, "Not in front of the kids!"
He put his hand on your shoulder and replied, "Love, they've been asleep for the past 7 minutes."
You turned to see them fast asleep to your surprise and went over to tuck them in. You bent over to lightly kiss their foreheads. "I guess I've been so into the story to notice.."
Arthur chuckled, "So have I, _____. Especially the last part.." He grinned slyly as he grabbed your hand and led you back to your room to finish the rest of the bedtime story.
